Stone & Game
Care Instructions
Caring for Your Marble
Marble is one of the most durable materials in the world — but it's not invincible. With a few simple habits, your Stone & Game pieces will look the same in fifty years as they do today.
Everyday Care
- Wipe with a soft, slightly damp cloth after use. A microfibre cloth works perfectly.
- For deeper cleaning, use a small amount of pH-neutral soap (regular dish soap is fine) mixed with warm water. Wipe and dry immediately.
- Always dry the piece with a clean cloth — don't let water sit on the surface.
What to Avoid
Marble is a natural stone and reacts to certain substances. Never use:
- Acidic cleaners — vinegar, lemon juice, citrus-based sprays. These will etch the surface permanently.
- Bleach or ammonia-based cleaners — too harsh for natural stone.
- Abrasive sponges or scouring pads — they will scratch the polish.
- Generic stone polishes unless specifically marked safe for marble.
Spills
Marble is slightly porous. If you spill anything — coffee, wine, oil — wipe it up immediately. Liquids left sitting can leave faint stains. Most stains can be removed if caught early.
Environment
- Keep marble pieces away from direct heat sources like radiators.
- Avoid prolonged direct sunlight to preserve the natural colour.
- Store pieces in their case when not in use to keep them dust-free.
Light Patina Over Time
After years of use, marble develops a soft, almost imperceptible patina — a gentle warmth in the stone. We consider this part of its character, not a flaw. It's a sign your piece is being used and loved.
For Onyx Pieces
Onyx is more delicate than marble. Avoid temperature extremes and handle with care — the same cleaning rules apply, just with a lighter touch.
